The Brooklet is the creation of the Smith family, who after travelling to Byron Bay over 30 years ago dreamt of owning a piece of land one day in this magical place. Year after year they travelled here with their children, each time exploring different villages and fell in love with the beaches of Belongil and Wategos, the little town of Suffolk Park and the picturesque hinterland villages of Possum Creek, Bangalow and Newrybar. They knew they would find their unique place in the Byron Bay Hinterland with the perfect blend of country and coastal that captured their hearts.

It was driving down a country road west of Newrybar village they fell in love. The property located in the hamlet of Brooklet was perfect, a long meandering driveway, a farmhouse and old dairy, fertile rich soil with established fig trees, rolling country hills and endless sunsets. It was then, in 2007 they purchased a 125-acre macadamia and stone fruit farm with the vision to regenerate the land and fulfil their dreams.

Over the years, the family travelled to the heart of Tuscany near Siena where they stayed at an exquisite luxury resort called Borgo Santo Pietro. The beautifully designed villas, holistic spa, gardens and the Italian way of life… long lunches, wine, cheese and harvesting from the garden, created a sense of home, calmness and relaxation. A place reminiscent of the Byron Bay hinterland.

It was here they were inspired to create their own story, a combination of luxury accommodation and wellness in the Byron Bay hinterland. A perfect blend of country and coastal life with luxurious spaces in an environment surrounded by breathtaking beauty. Where luxury meets nature, a home away from home.

After many years of careful and considered planning and family discussions over dinner, The Brooklet vision has come to fruition. It is a thoughtful and luxurious collective of accommodation, wellness, nature and hospitality, where you feel a sense of home, as well as an elevated sense of endless possibility and adventure, along with a subtle ease that things will be taken care of.

A place you and your guests will want to return to year after year.

THE VEGETABLE GARDEN AND ORCHARD
The vegetable garden and orchard are a very special place at The Brooklet where many hours of love have been spent planting and harvesting nutrient dense, organic produce. Ingredients are picked to make nourishing salads, full of life force, garden herbs added to flavour dishes, fruit and berries picked for breakfast and seasonal vegetables harvested at optimal time for roasting, steaming, sautéing, pickling and fermenting. To complete the garden, flowers have been planted for the bees and edible flowers planted to add vibrant colours and texture to dishes.
Creating an abundant organic garden, we could share was paramount. Guests can wander across the paddock from their accommodation to harvest salad greens, pick herbs and forage for other ingredients they would love to cook with, in the comfort of their own kitchen in The Villas or The Bails.
Alternatively, let executive chef, Simon Favorito create something spectacular, a menu harvested from the garden, line caught sustainable seafood, local organic meats, perfectly seasoned with herbs, spices, nuts and grains.
Where you and your guests arrive, and we cook and look after you!

SUSTAINABLE STORY
The concept of sustainability is expansive, ever evolving and indeterminate. Practicing sustainability ensures that we make conscious, ethical choices that creates a safe, liveable and harmonies future for all living species on earth.
‘Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm, it is about doing more good’. This is the path the owners of The Brooklet chose to take when they purchased the 125- acre farm in 2007. Slowly transforming a working macadamia and stone fruit farm into a natural wonderland. The farm was no longer used for production and the soil slowly regenerated back to rich, nutrient dense red earth where they planted over
3500 native trees, regenerated waterways and built four rainwater tanks which services the accommodation and facilities with fresh rainwater.
The vegetable garden was also an important part of the vision, reducing food miles from our backyard to the kitchen, sourcing produce from local grower’s markets and organic farms down the road.
Recycled timber, stone and bricks were used when building the accommodation and the small things also make a difference…choosing a digital compendium app as opposed to paper compendiums, sourcing local spray-free farm flowers, wood fires to keep you warm in winter, eco-friendly body products and cleaning products, composting, recycling, no single use plastic and e-bikes.
